Why do we need to use blog in learning?
By Bagus Fitrianto
By using
blog, we use modern tool- use which helps us to develop our knowledge by
reading, watching, listening, and seeing information which prepared on blog
especially for student or teacher. As (Wertsch, 1985) which stated that
learning theorist has suggested tool- use has contributed to the evolution of
human language and cognitive development. And then, blog helps students to
learn independently which enable students to be creative in developing their
knowledge and skill like design blog, fill the blog by any information which
help them how to create their styles in learning well, etc.
In
education, the high activity is using of blogs is exemplified at university web
sites across the globe and many leading ICT pedagogy experts, such as
Ferdig and Trammel (2004), Armstrong,
Berry & Lamshed (2007), Downes (2004), Richardson (2004), Kennedy (2003),
O’Donnell (2005), and Bartlett-Bragg (2003) claim a myriad of pedagogical blog
potentials such as:
1. - Exchanging insights and information,
which publishers are too critical to print;
2. -Collaboration between diverse
communities. Blogs can encourage integration of personal, peer, and expert
narratives;
3. -Hosting e-portfolios, archives and
student publications;
4. - Reflective or journal writings as an
alternative to “traditional” forums or bulletin boards;
5. -Group work, which could be
synchronous or asynchronous within or between groups;
6. - Learning portals;
7. -Assignment submission and review;
and
8. -Sharing course-related resources.
Blog also
engages and encourages students in giving statement and comment where teacher
is able to know the progression and development in students as well as in
academic or in character. An example is a blog journal project (McGuinn &
Hogarth, 2000) which encouraged tutor-student engagement in dialogue and so
increased students' participation by offering an additional mode of response
and feedback, while monitoring and guiding individual students' learning.
The other
potentials of blog are enrich learning experiences and help students to learn
deeply. Base on Rosie which cited in Bartlett- Bragg (2003: 2-3) elaborated
that deep learning involves constructing connections between concepts in a
context. She also added deep learning is unlike surface learning where
students’ complete the minimum content necessary to meet assessment
requirements’. In addition, students are conscious of their
unrestricted postings to the public and are more careful about the way ‘they
say things, how they collect their thoughts and summarize their understanding’
(Armstrong, et. al., 2007).
In brief, blog
helps teacher to know the progression of students and also students to learn in
developing their skills and knowledge in modern tool- use without feeling
nervous and afraid in showing their ideas and creativities.
Three Theories Psychology of Learning
By Bagus Fitrianto
Education is a key to be successful in developing a
country and nation. Success in education is relative where it can be seen
according to philosophy point of view from many people. For instance, it can be
from score, rank, attitude, etc. Relativity in education is effect from
applying learning theory in process of teaching learning. There are three kinds
of learning theory which are commonly applied in teaching learning, namely,
behaviorism, cognitivism and constructivism.
The first theory is behaviorism. As a theory,
behaviorism develops learners’ response by giving stimuli which is emphasized
in changing demeanor or behavior. It is supported by Thorndike (1898) that
learning is process between stimuli and response. In this psychology, learning process
is more supposed as mechanical and automatic repeatedly without talking what
students feel. The masters of this theory are Watson, Thorndike, Clark Hull,
Edwin Guthrie, and Skinner.
Second, cognitivism is a theory of learning where demeanor
is learned by perceptions toward information, formulation, and production to
decide and understand the thought process of human. In the learning process of cognitive
psychology is more emphasized how to optimize thought ability from students. According
to Neisser (1967: 4) showed cognition term is refer to all process where
sensory input is changed, reduced, purposed, saved, taken back, and used. It
means that cognition is engaged in all of possible deed from human; that all
psychology phenomena are cognitive phenomenon. The supporters of this theory
are George Miller, Edward C. Tolman, Gestalt, Lewin, and Piaget.
Last, constructivism is a theory of learning
psychology that helps students to construct the knowledge or concept base on
knowledge and experience that they had before. Robert
B. Innes (2004:1) states “Constructivist views of learning include a range of
theories that share the general perspective that knowledge is constructed by
learners rather than transmitted to learners. It also involves mental and
physical actively. This psychology explains that learning is a process to
develop and change knowledge by constructing to get new forms of thought and
knowledge. The masters who developed constructivism theory are Jean Piaget,
John Dewey, Von Graselfeld, and Paul Suparno SJ.
In brief, there are three theories which can be
considered in giving knowledge by different way of learning.
